Applications open for CACT and Greenwich University Course in Community Sport

Applications are now open for an exciting new educational opportunity run in partnership by the University of Greenwich and Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT).

The two-year Foundation Degree is aimed at individuals with a passion for sport, as participants or coaches, who wish to pursue a career in community sport. The programme could also be of keen interest to students with a background of work with young people.

It will be led by PE and Sport University-based staff alongside specialist staff from CACT, which will provide a range of placements and work-based learning opportunities.

There will be a focus on both theoretical and practical skills, working to improve students’ employability skills for a range of sport-related careers.

Students will be based at Avery Hill with access to a range of indoor and outdoor sports facilities, and some sessions taking place on site with CACT.

CACT’s award-winning work in sports and education across south-east London and Kent make it a great partner to provide students with on-the-ground experience alongside the expertise from University staff.

Dr. Alan Sanders, Director of Health and Education at CACT said:

“This is a unique opportunity for those who wish to gain a higher education qualification suitable for working in a community sports organisation.

“In addition, at the end of the two-year course, students may wish to transfer onto the final year of the university BA (QTS) in Physical Education that would be suitable for a career in teaching.”
