More about The 'Stay In School' Program
The Shamrock Foundation benefits children directly by partnering with community-based organizations that provide academic enrichment, healthcare, shelter & vital services for thousands of young people in need. For over twenty years, programs dedicated to New England’s youth have been the cornerstone of the Boston Celtics charitable efforts. As a world-class, professional sports team, we know the impact we can, and do have within the community. To that end, we consistently incorporate the participation of our current and past players, dance team members, and mascot into community programs to encourage youth to strive for academic, athletic, social, and personal success.
By leveraging the unique resources of the Boston Celtics, the Shamrock Foundation makes a significant and direct impact on the youth of New England through effective interaction and curriculum. Specifically, the 19-year old “Stay in School” program, uses basketball as a vehicle to engage inner-city children on a personal level, and then encourages them to ‘Stay in School’ by identifying easy ways to make healthy and smart life choices; an enormous social problem for Boston youth. The program is hosted at 27 Boston Public Middle School assemblies during the academic year, where Celtics players and coaches deliver the message using the acronym “PRIDE” (Perseverance; Respect; Integrity; Decisions; Education).
At the end of each year, the top students are honored for their perfect attendance and academic accomplishments at a formal ceremony. More than 50,000 students have participated in the program since its inception.
