More about Students Run Philly Style
Students Run Philly Style offers youth an innovative way to change their lives by providing youth with a caring adult and a pair of sneakers. As program participants train for eight public road races, they reap the health benefits of running over 600 miles in a single season. Participants understand that exercise is good for them, and adapt a goal-setting mindset, both in health and academics.
We need to continue devoting time and energy to making sure Philadelphia’s, and ultimately the nation’s, children stay healthy through distance running. Multiple studies show the negative consequences of childhood obesity, including but not limited to poor academic performance, low self-esteem, and higher health risks. Regular exercise can mend these problems; Students Run Philly Style provides the structure for students to take action. Authentic relationships keep youth tied to the organization and are a large part of the reason why many participate from middle school all the way through high school graduation.
Students Run Philly Style has provided youth with an innovative platform for transformation for the past ten years; we are excited to continue this journey and change more lives.
