More about Street Soccer Scotland
Scotland has some of the most socially deprived areas in the UK, with complex patterns of addiction, poor health and low educational attainment. Recent reports highlight that nearly 20% of children live in relative poverty. Whilst inequalities in health are considerable with life expectancies in some areas of Glasgow less than that in developing countries.
Street Soccer (Scotland) (SSS) works across four of Scotland’s major cities; Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow, where these issues are most prevalent.
We use football to engage people, to provide opportunities to have fun, to interact positively with peers and to develop the confidence, skills and abilities to make positive changes within their lives. Our programmes increase opportunities for people to develop their skills and interests and to expand their horizons through the provision of football drop-ins, annual programmes of personal development workshops and access to football themed education and work placements and volunteering.
We have spent considerable time researching and consulting both on the range of activities we offer and on the locations that we offer them in. This has involved working with key partners such as local authorities, the police and charities as well as consulting widely with local communities, participants and players.
