More about Street Life Soccer
Street Life Soccer uses football to engage with people who often find themselves amongst the most marginalised and disenfranchised members of our society. We work primarily with homeless adults and those identified as being at risk of homelessness including ex-offenders, long term unemployed and asylum seekers. Street Life Soccer sessions enable participants to develop their personal, social and physical skills through the context of football.
The skills acquired include: team working communication and personal development; all of which can be transferred through to everyday life situations. We offer participants the opportunity to gain a range of qualifications reflecting the needs of the individual, future employers and the wider community. We also support participants to develop their literacy and numeracy skills.
The Street Life Rep squad is made up of participants from across the programme and plays regular matches against other social inclusion teams from around England: as well as locally against teams from local businesses and the police force. These matches are always positive and motivating experiences for all involved and help to breakdown prejudices and stereotypes that are so often connected to homelessness. Many former participants have gone on to complete the FA Level 1 coaching badge through bursaries provided by Street Life Soccer and are now pursuing careers in the sports industry.
