More about Sports workshops to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS among youth and AIDS orphans in rural in Uganda
In rural Uganda, there are hardly any sport programmes addressing health concerns with a particular focus on HIV/AIDS that is why we are focusing on the rural youths. This programme uses sports like football and netball to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS by creating forums and avenues to share information among rural youths and raise awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention measures to minimise the risk of contracting the virus.
We use sports as a tool to involve youth/AIDS orphans to overcome stigma, discrimination & denial. Our intention is to help youth learn what they can do to help each other to live happy and healthy lives free from social stigma; we arrange college teams to participants in schools sports events where we give out trophies and advocacy materials to the participants’ teams.
