More about Sport for Women Inclusion in Afghanistan
According to the National Education Strategic Plan for 2006-2010, the low quality of formal education is due to the lack of trained teachers and the insufficiency of quality teaching and learning material. This is especially true for sport. Even when a playground is accessible, sport material is not always available and a majority of teachers (especially women) have never attended SPA training.
In addition, sport activities help to facilitate inclusion of girls and women, who often represent an excluded population due to Afghanistan social rules and customs. Women have difficulties to access SPA because of social or religious pressure.
The lack of trained female trainers leads to bad quality courses and does not allow a regular frequentation of sport clubs. SSF actively work to improve those aspects through different activities using sport:
- Upgrading teachers’ skills and improving the quality of their teaching providing training and creating pedagogical tools.
- Supporting other NGOs working with vulnerable population through social workers training and equipment support.
- Organization of sport activities for all
- Implementation in all activities of awareness raising sessions to increase knowledge and understanding about issues such as sexual and gender based violence.
