SOMOS: Sports Network for the Development of Latin America was born due to the need to grow in scale and seek to reach 120,000 children and youth in five years.
SOMOS promotes soccer as an instrument for the generation of knowledge and the construction of social skills, SOMOS promotes and supports the work of grassroots social organizations, with the aim of accessing successful methodologies that use sport for development.
Our participants are children and adolescents, regular and with intellectual disability, aged between 6 and 12 years old who are in situation of social risk, with little access to education, low income and who live in communities with high rates of violence.
Sport and community leaders, participate in a process of strengthening teaching sports skills and values, so that later serve as coaches and trainers, in order to ensure the sustainable development of the program and the effective transfer of knowledge.
Until May 2015, SOMOS has formed and strengthen in values and social skills, more than 48,000 children and youth, as well as more than 700 trainers; in 15 sport networks in 23 organizations in 10 Latin-American countries with 4 important strategic allies.
