More about Solidarity Sports

Children have improved their social and communication skills by interacting with their friends and parents have indicated that this has had a knock on effect in the classroom. Crime amongst youth is cause for concern in the area and by giving children something constructive to do, we are keeping them off the streets and improving their future prospects. Many of the children who attend the sessions come from single parent homes.

This project has enabled parents to have more time for themselves, to seek further education and employment. Some children come from large families who live in overcrowded conditions. Parents and other adults have described how the project has helped to tackle stress and tension in the home. Parents have informed Solidarity Sports that children are showing a greater awareness of healthy diets and are willing to eat more fruit and vegetables. In turn, siblings of these children have noticed this and are also keener to eat healthy foods, which they never used to. In addition to this, parents have also made new friends when meeting other parents during drop-off and collection times. This has led to a group of parents starting up a swimming club for their children.
