More about Soccerfest
Recognising that sport has a social responsibility and by using sport to tackle issues affecting marginalised people in society, Soccerfest acts as a catalyst for positive change. Participants are drawn from the island of Ireland - both North and South - targeting ethnically diverse groups and socially excluded communities. Forty mens teams and eight womens teams come together for two days in the Phoenix Park, Dublin to take part in the largest 7-a-side intercultural soccer tournament in Europe. Individual team preparation is carried out locally, well in advance of the event, and these training sessions can include workshops on cultural integration, social welfare and rights based initiatives.
The festival itself incorporates a Global Village Post Office led by CONCERN Worldwide with a Development Education programme,` and a Global Football Village which contains the welfare and health elements with SARI strategic partners including Dublin Aids Alliance, An Garda Siochona (the police) and other strategic alliance partner NGOs alongside soccer skill sessions led by the Football Association of Ireland (FAI).
