More about Soccer for Success, Passback Program
One of our primary goals is to use soccer as a vehicle for fighting childhood obesity. We work to:
- Provide children with opportunities to get 60 minutes of active play each day as recommended by the U.S. Government’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention
- Provide families with free health screenings to check Cholesterol, Blood Pressure, and Diabetes and provide them with referrals to community clinics if abnormal readings are found
- Increase children’s acquisition of nutritional knowledge
- Produce positive food and beverage choice behavior
- Engage and train parents, coaches, and program administrators in ways that improve health outcomes
We achieve these goals through two key programs:
1) Passback Tour - We have partnered with the National Alliance for Hispanic Health to present a 25 city Tour in 2010. Each Tour stop will provide thousands of families with free health screenings and soccer clinics that emphasize the importance of physical activity and proper diet.
2) Soccer for Success - In partnership with Schools, Community Organizations and Parks/Recreation Centers, Soccer for Success provides free after-school soccer programs for at-risk youth. Professionally-trained coaches and volunteers will engage children in high activity soccer programs that also deliver healthy lifestyle information and encourage better food choices.
