More about Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan Mbare Karate Club
The goal of our Club is to alleviate the effects of poverty through capacity building and character modelling of the vulnerable through the discipline of karate. Mbare is the oldest suburb in Harare but suffers from poverty, under investments and lack of opportunities. Recognising the vulnerability of the underprivileged that can easily be manipulated for purposes of committing crimes, violence and other vices, the Club management offered a program that would pre-occupy the youth with a noble activity. Apart from the physical training the students are expected to be of model behaviour respectable in society. The sport also seeks to nurture the discipline, concentration, perseverance and other traits common with success people.
We also recognised the far reaching implications of poverty such as failure to reach potential, stigmatization, exclusion and low self esteem. The skills imparted through karate training are intended to boost the confidence and eventual success of the participant. In addition, through our sport, it will allows us to foster cordial community relations through engagement in a sporting activity that involves everyone, unlock the sporting potential and talent of the so often neglected underprivileged youths and improve karate standards in Zimbabwe through the broad participation of everyone.
