More about SARI Count Us In
The aim of Count Us In is to generate intercultural dialogue, build social capital in and out of the classroom using the medium and universal language of sport working with a range of stakeholders. Piloted in 2007 and further developed and expanded in 2008 ‘Count Us In’ has 3 distinct but inter-locking phases. Each phase gives young people the opportunity to understand the values that exist in sport and to demonstrate that these are the same values that can be used in everyday life. Phase 1: The education module specifically tailored to ages 9 -16 uses positive imagery, including the SARI Sporting Heads pilot DVD to animate a dialogue with the students.
Students are introduced to terms such as Racism, Integration, Fair Play, Respect, Team Work and are encouraged to discuss their views. Phase 2: Inter-school Sports Day. Students come together mix, chat, actively play sport and get to know each other in a safe and fun environment. It provides the praxis for the education module and students participate in a range of sports. Phase 3: National Youth Festival. Nationally to provide opportunities for young people from different backgrounds to get to know each other and access a wide range of sports.
